Africa karoake
Here's the original song so you can hear what it sounds like:
Africa - Toto
Hint:
The most important you can do to make sure your song sounds right is to count the syllables in each line and make sure that the lines in your song match those of the original song. That's far more important then any rhyming scheme.
If you can manage it, have someone in your group sing the background as well as singing the main lines.
Requirements:
Your song should either deal with equations of lines (easier I think because there is more material) or solving linear equations. You will right lines for the entire song. You can work in a group of no more then 4. The song will be recorded and posted on the blog and you will have an option to post it on youtube. Your song will be typed and you will give me a copy of your song so that I can follow along as you sing.
Things that must be addressed
Linear equations:
y=mx+b
finding slope
rise/run
finding y-intercepts
meaning of slope and y-intercept
uses of linear equations
Solving:
Properties of equality
the mechanics of how to solve and equation with an example
(it will take some imagination to fill the entire 4 minute song with this)
Remember, you are choosing this option instead of doing the ball drop experiment and written report.
Here are the lyrics:
I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
She's coming in the 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say
"Hurry boy, it's waiting there for you!"
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
The wild dogs cry out in the night
As they grow restless longing for some solitary company
I know that I must do what's right

Sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti
I seek to cure what's deep inside
Frightened of this thing that I've become
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you
It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There's nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa, I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa, I bless the rains down in Africa
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never had
