Flag football schedule this week

We will have practice this Sunday (11/30) from 11:00 to 12:30ish and Monday (12/1) after school.
Our first playoff opponent will be the winner of the Trevista/Waller game (played at Trevista at 3:45 on 12/2) at Slavens on Wednesday (12/3).  I would like to have  chance to see that game, but I have a fauculty meeting until 4:00. I highly recommend that some players watch that game if possible so we can see what we are up against.  If we win on Wednesday, we will most likely play Montbello again in the semis on Thursday with the championships on Friday at South.  The weather looks good all week, so I am assuming all the games will be played as scheduled.

Football Game Cancelled today

Today's game has been cancelled and tomorrows game is tentatively scheduled for the Slavens field, but DPS is reserving the TJ field in case our field isn't playable.  We will need to organize a driving schedule to get our players over there since we will not have buses.  Please get in touch with me if you can drive and how many you can take.

Latest district Information on our grading program (IC)

DPS CENTRAL COMMUNICATIONS
INFINITE CAMPUS UPDATE

DoTS communicated recently that we are investigating the issues regarding IC slowness and connectivity.  DoTS has escalated this as our highest priority to resolve.

We have implemented a number of changes and are gathering information to see if there has been a positive impact.  Based on the results of the data we are collecting, there is a possibility that we will need to take IC offline from close-of-business on Friday, November 6 through Tuesday, November 11.  We will communicate the finalized plan to you tomorrow (Friday).

We wish to communicate our sincere appreciation for your patience as we work through this difficult issue and apologize for the disruption this has caused in our schools.

Please pass on to your family:
Our grading program, IC,  has a major glitch in it that only allows teachers access intermittently (yesterday we had access to IC from 7:30 to 10:00ish).  The district has said that the fix requires the program to be off line for 3 to 5 days and they will be fixing it during Thanksgiving.  I (and all other teachers) will have a hard time updating grades during this time.

Unit projects - scale factor song

The requirements are for you and your partners (no more then 3 total) will rewrite the song 'rip tide' by Vance Joy so that one can learn how to
1)find scale factors (corresponding sides of similar figures)
2)use scale factors
3)the relationship between the scale factor and areas of similar figures (sf squared times the corresponding area)
4)How to determine if two shapes are similar
5)What is congruence
6) how are scale factors useful

you must pick 4 out of the 5 points.

The trick is to count out each syllables for each line and make sure that your lyrics have the same number of syllables in it.
I was scared of dentists and the dark
I was scared of pretty girls and starting conversations
Oh, all my friends are turning green
You're the magician's assistant in their dream

Oh, and they come unstuck

Lady, running down to the riptide
Taken away to the dark side
I wanna be your left hand man
I love you when you're singing that song
And I got a lump in my throat
'Cause you're gonna sing the words wrong

There's this movie that I think you'll like
This guy decides to quit his job and heads to New York City
This cowboy's running from himself
And she's been living on the highest shelf

Oh, and they come unstuck

Lady, running down to the riptide
Taken away to the dark side
I wanna be your left hand man
I love you when you're singing that song
And I got a lump in my throat
'Cause you're gonna sing the words wrong

I just wanna, I just wanna know
If you're gonna, if you're gonna stay
I just gotta, I just gotta know
I can't have it, I can't have it any other way
I swear she's destined for the screen
Closest thing to Michelle Pfeiffer that you've ever seen, oh

Lady, running down to the riptide
Taken away to the dark side
I wanna be your left hand man
I love you when you're singing that song
And I got a lump in my throat
'Cause you're gonna sing the words wrong

Oh lady, running down to the riptide
Taken away to the dark side
I wanna be your left hand man
I love you when you're singing that song
And I got a lump in my throat
'Cause you're gonna sing the words wrong

Oh lady, running down to the riptide
Taken away to the dark side
I wanna be your left hand man
I love you when you're singing that song
And I got a lump in my throat
'Cause you're gonna sing the words wrong
And I got a lump in my throat
'Cause you're gonna sing the words wrong

Homework assignment sheet

Parent letter

Dear Parents,
Please read through this letter with your student tonight (8/25), verify that your student has a homework assignment sheet, and sign the back page. Your child should return this signed letter to me tomorrow in class.

Introduction
This will be my ninth year teaching 7th and 8 the grade mathematics at Slavens and my thirteenth year in DPS.  I received my Bachelors of Architecture and my teaching credential from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and my Masters of Education from Lesley University. I then worked as an architect in San Francisco and Santa Barbara for three years while my wife worked towards her law degree at the University of California at Berkeley.  Besides my interests in teaching, I also have a passion for sports. In college I played football, rugby, and ran cross country.  This year I have the exciting opportunity to race as part of the US national triathlon team in Edmonton, Canada and as a result I will be out the rest of this week.

1) Write and solve your linear equation correctly showing each step as one piece of your mobile
2) Making your mobile balanced and able to move freely
3) Including a theme from one (or more) of your classes.  Sorry, lunch and recess do not count.
4) Making your project pretty

Grading:
If your solution to your equation is wrong, the best you can get is a Partially Proficient.

Advanced:

Equation requires 6 steps to solve and is done correctly
Mobile is balanced and moving freely
Writing is neat and easy to read
Papers have a recognizable theme and are aesthetically pleasing
